Shared parental leave; What would you do?

As you may know, the Shared Parental Leave legislation will be coming into force 5th April 2015. This means flexibility will be given to eligible parents, partners and adopters who will care for their child in the first year of its life. Maternity cover can be split between a mother and the father, giving them the chance to either take time off together to care for their child or split the leave so that the mother can return to work.

From my personal experience with Sienna, I'm not sure I would have taken this opportunity. Not only did I work from home but I also enjoyed being a stay at home mum. We were very lucky that Sienna was a good baby, she rarely cried, was content most of the time and happy to go with the flow of whatever I was doing. However, I know some of my friends would jump at the chance of swapping of places with their partner.. it can sometimes become too much and you just want to feel like you again rather than just Mummy. Going back to work or sharing the parental leave could help with that so I can see why some women are totally in favour of this. You never know, next time we might have a baby that screams 24/7 and I'll be begging Warren to take over!

What do you think of PSL? Would you share it or return to work yourself?
