Unfortunately, for those buying the flowers it can be all too easy to get it wrong leaving us with bunches of buds we just don’t like (although we have to pretend otherwise to save those little feelings).
So, for any dads helping their kids pick some flowers for mum (hint hint) here are some handy tips worth following:
Colour and fragrance
Look for bouquets in mum’s favourite colour (always a hit)
Match bouquets to the colour of rooms to avoid clashes
Use different colour flowers in the same bouquet for depth – white is a good option to add in
Avoid any strongly scented flowers which may overpower rooms
Add a few sweet smelling flowers for a delicate aroma (roses are perfect)

Balance and size
Don’t just pick the biggest bouquet – go with what will look nice in the home and fit the room
Ensure the bouquet is balanced by choosing one with plenty of greenery or fillers
Look for bouquets which combine large statement flowers with smaller buds for depth
Buy bouquets that come in a vase to make them easier to present
Look for interesting vase options like a fish bowl, basket, watering can or jug for added interest

Flowers that can’t fail
Carnations –a British best-seller, they are a traditional Mother’s Day choice in red and pink
Roses – always popular with the ladies and, buy as a rose bush for a longer lasting gift
