Family Fun Days: Top 5 Zoos in the UK!

If there’s one thing that most kids love, it’s a trip to the zoo. While it may be a little nippy outside at the moment, there’s no reason why you can’t layer up to wrap up warm, and head to one of your favourite zoos for the day. With the February half term on the horizon, a visit to the zoo would be an ideal way to pass the time and, if you wish to incorporate it into a few days away in one of the UK’s top cities, you can! Here are five superb zoos in the UK for you to choose from.

Edinburgh Zoo, Edinburgh
Book your family into a Travelodgehotel in Edinburgh and plan a visit to this wonderful zoo as part of your stay. It’s the largest wildlife attraction in Scotland, housing over 1000 animals for you to gaze at. The beautiful parkland in which the zoo can be found is a scenic delight, while the conservation programmes that the zoo operates continue to protect endangered species from around the world.
This 36-acre conservation site can be found in the heart of Regent’s Park, making it a perfect addition to any London city break without worrying about how to get there. Home to over 650 species from across the animal kingdom, it’s a real treat. Make sure you save some time to explore the monkey enclosure that has been designed to emulate the Bolivian rainforest.


Chester Zoo, Chester
As the largest zoo in the UK, you can only imagine what’s in store if you chose to visit here. Home to 7000 animals, across 400 species, you certainly won’t be stuck for things to see. Save a whole day for the visit, and appreciate the conservation efforts that the zoo takes part in to help endangered species from around the world, including being the home to seven black rhinos which you can enjoy as part of the Black Rhino Experience.
Drusillas Park, East Sussex
If you’d prefer to stay away from the big name zoos, DrusillasPark is arguably one of the best small zoos in the country. A huge hit with the kids, Drusillas isn’t just about the beasties that its home to; it’s also home to an Amazon Adventure as well as a Thomas the Tank Engine train ride that will gladly take you on a tour around the park.
Dudley Zoo, Dudley
This fantastic zoo in the heart of the Black Country is home to an extensive range of big and rare animals for you and the kids to enjoy. With Dudley Castle on site too, you can enjoy a full day of fun and adventure here, including the chance to wander through the Monkey Tails walkthrough attraction to get up close and personal with these intelligent primates.
