Now that it is December, the first thing on most people’s minds is to go and get the tree down fro the loft and set it up in the living room. Of course, if you have opted for a real tree you will be out this weekend picking it up, but either way you will need to take stock of the room you have in the living room and decide where the tree will go this year.
Measure your space
The first thing on the agenda is to take a look at the room you want to place the tree in and measure up what space you have without moving anything. If you have the space to add a tree by the window or the fireplace then great! However most of us will have to do some shuffling around to make way for the festive centrepiece. The height of your room will dictate how large a tree you can get, however you can buy a range of different widths too. The important thing is to make sure you have enough room to comfortably walk around the house. If you need to move furniture around or even get rid of anything for the meantime, consider placing them in a Household self storage unit rather than in the loft where they will get dusty and damp.
Where will it go?
As we’ve already talked about, it is important to check which room and where in the room you want the tree to go. Think about where you and your family will spend most of Christmas, and where you plan you open the gifts on Christmas morning. You will most likely want the tree in your living room where you will be able to enjoy it all evening. Now you need to decide where in the living room the tree will go. You could have it in front of the window and then even people passing by will be able to enjoy the view, but make sure that you don’t obstruct anything you will need. If the window is close to your TV and the tree will block someone’s view, it is probably better somewhere else.
Move furniture to another room
If you don’t want to get rid of any of your furniture and you still think you’ll need it during December, you can move it to another area of the house. Storage units and bookshelves are a great example of furniture pieces which you can move out of the way during the festive season and move into another part of the house until January. If you are planning to have a large gathering on Christmas Day and are cooking dinner for your family, consider hosting the dinner part of the day in a different room to where the tree is. This way you know that everyone will have enough room to enjoy the day without brushing past the tree every few minutes. Everyone will be able to see the tree during the day without it getting in the way of your celebrations.
