The step-by-step guide to getting ready on holiday

I don’t know about everyone else, but for me getting ready on holiday is an entirely different experience to getting ready every day at home. Perhaps it’s being in a new environment, or simply the excitement of knowing that the day ahead is going to be full of warm weather and adventures that are far more exciting than the day-to-day routine that I’m used to. Here’s a step-by-step guide to preparing for a new day in a sunnier climate…

Deciding what to wear
Even something as simple as choosing my outfit for the day is different when I’m on holiday. Usually this is the final step in my routine (being a mum has made me far more of a ‘throw-on-and-go’ kind of person than I ever was before). When I’m away however, I find that the rest of my routine kind of revolves around what I’m wearing.
We’re a big fan of a traditional summer beach break, so more often than not it’s holiday dresses – the Tu holiday dress collection has styles in pretty much every shape and colour – and a pair of strappy sandals. Flats for the day of course, to be swapped for something with a wedge come evening. Once I’ve planned my outfit, I lay everything out on the bed – accessories and all – and get going with the rest of my morning routine.
In the shower
We naturally tend to bare a little more skin on holiday than usual, so my morning shower is all about getting in that last minute prep. I usually start with a gentle scrub to exfoliate the skin, this Mediterranean Sea Salt Scrub from The Body Shop smells like summer in a jar. A shampoo with SPF is a must, while I also finish off with a bit of glow-giving moisturiser. Smooth over the legs, arms and shoulders…anywhere that would benefit from a little bit of extra colour and sheen!

Hair and makeup
Once again, being a mum means that it’s a rarity for me to get much time for my hair and makeup in the morning. It actually works for me on holiday though, as this is when I like to pare everything back and keep my look as fresh and natural as possible.
I tend to part my hair when wet, then add a little salt spray to the lengths in order to encourage a little bit of that beachy wave we all so crave. If I’m going to be dipping in and out of the pool all day, I tend to leave it at that and let it do its thing naturally – there’s no point styling it only for it to get wet again, after all! Braids are another quick and easy way that I like to style my hair on holiday. Fishtail braids are really easy to create and the finished look is just so summer appropriate.
My makeup routine is equally simple. I always start with SPF – La Roche Posay do a great one that can simply be spritzed over the skin and is gentle enough for everyone to use. A little bit of tinted moisturiser or BB cream, followed by a slick of lip balm and waterproof mascara completes the look and is incredibly natural, but still makes me feel that little bit more confident in my own skin.

What’s your go-to routine for getting ready on holiday?
