Rossopomodoro restaurant review & GIVEAWAY!

While we were in London for Easter, we were invited to try out an restaurant called Rossopomodoro. This Italian restaurant group has a number of sites across the UK, primarily in London. We opted for the Camden restaurant as it worked out the closest to where we were going to be that day.

When we arrived, the atmosphere felt very welcoming and the restaurant felt like it had a good vibe with fun music & modern yet rustic decor. Rossopomodoro is set apart from all other restaurants as it hires chefs from Neapolitan pizzaioli families, using ingredients sourced only from the Napoli region.  The majority of the staff were Italian as well, which really adds to the authentic Neapolitan experience of the whole restaurant.

After looking at the menu and reading through the vast choice, we finally decided what we wanted. Warren's mum who was also with us, was glad to see there was plenty of gluten free options for her as she tries to avoid it wherever possible.

For starters, we order the OLIVE E LUPINI - Green and black olives from Gaeta and salted yellow lupin beans with chilli and pepper, PALLINA - deep-fried pizza dough balls flavoured with basil pesto, garlic and parmesan cheese and the CALAMARI E ZUCCHINE - Fried calamari and fried courgettes zeppole with a lemon dressing to share around and they were really delicious. Aria demolished the lupin beans, no-one got a look in to the Calamari once Warren got hold of it and I couldn't get enough of the dough balls. The pesto had such a nice flavour, I've never had dough balls like that before!

For mains, I had the PAPPARDELLE ALLA BOLOGNESE - Pappardelle pasta with homemade Neapolitan beef Bolognese sauce, parmesan cheese shavings and fresh basil and Warren the CALZONE - Smoked mozzarella, Neapolitan salami, buffalo ricotta, plum tomato sauce and basil. Warren added sausage meat to his which they had no problem with at all. Both were really good, my tasted so authentic and had so much flavour.. I was enjoying mine so much that I forgot to take a photo of it, whoops! Warren enjoyed his too, can you tell? ;)

The girls ordered the Margheritina Pizzetta - small margherita pizza with ham and the Pennina - penne pasta served with butter or tomato sauce and parmesan (we opted for tomato sauce & parmesan). Although it said small, the pizza was pretty big.. Sienna took one look at it and demanded she couldn't possibly eat it all so we said we could take the rest home instead. I did try both the pizza and the pasta and again they were so good. I'm not a huge fan of pizza but I could have eaten the whole thing! The base wasn't dry at all, it was buttery if anything and the tomato topping wasn't too sharp either.. it was so moreish! The same with the pasta, it had so much flavour.

I wanted to touch on the staff in the restaurant as well, who were amazing! Both our girls were really tired after spending the day in London at an Easter egg hunt, so were pretty much in meltdown mode from the word go. Warren and I had to take it in turns to eat our mains as we were pushing Aria up and down the street in the stroller as she was really overtired but no-one seemed to mind.

It felt like a really family friendly place, the staff were good at trying to distract the girls when they were crying and didn't mind about the mess they were making or us getting up and down from the table either. I even noticed they warmed up another families baby food for them, they were very friendly and accommodating.

We were really full after our mains, but couldn't resist the desserts and coffees. We went for the Home-made coffee tiramisù with mascarpone and Nutella and the Home Made panna cotta with buffalo ricotta served with Hazelnut cookies and Nutella. It's safe to say they were definite winners and we managed to polish them off ;)

We'd definitely go back to Rossopomodoro and would highly recommend it, especially for families. It's definitely the best Italian restaurant we have eaten at.
