With a few sunny days of late, I think the countdown to the warmer weather is on! I feel like I've certainly got summer on the brain as we think about planning a summer getaway. Where to go is the question? But what to wear is an even bigger question, right? Any excuse to get to the shops and choose a few new pieces for the girls and I is always fun. But what are the trends to be looking out for over the coming months? Here are some of my favourite things that I’ve spotted, as well as what has made a move from the catwalk to the high street.
(both tops - Primark)
Bra Tops
A bra top was pretty big last year, and they look set to be a big trend again. I think teamed with a high waisted skirt or some high waisted shorts; they can look really cute. Perfect for something like a festival. If only I were going to Coachella! If that isn’t your kind fo thing for everyday wear, then I have seen plenty of bralette bikinis that look really good. It seems like the more floral, the better.
White Lace
White lace just makes you want to head over to the Hamptons for a Gossip Girl style summer party where everyone is in white. But it is a big trend that is going to be seen again this summer. I think it is a really cute look for the girls, especially for a special occasion. But for me, I like the idea of some white lace shorts or a white lace dress. The only trouble is what underwear to wear with that kind of thing. I’ll have to be on the lookout for some women’s briefs that aren’t going to give a VPL! It isn’t really a very good look otherwise, is it?
Off The Shoulder
Last summer it was a popular to wear bandeau style tops or have both shoulders exposed. This summer it looks like it will be all about just having that one shoulder exposed. Think the eighties and Flashdance, except much classier. I think this look is much easier to wear for an everyday style, rather than the two shoulder tops and dresses of last year. It can be worn quite casual or easily dressed up too.
Statement Stripes
If the Fendi runway was anything to go by, then statement stripes are going to be a big look over the coming months. Think less nautical, Boden and Breton stripes, and more bold, bright and colourful stripes. A maxi dress or short in this style is a really effortless way to wear the look. Plus you don’t need many accessories or fancy sandals when the stripes are doing all of the talking for you.
Slogan Tees
I really love this look as it is so easy to wear as a busy mum with some skinny jeans or a denim skirt. Dior’s feminist statement tees are to die for! But I love that there are many more affordable options on the high street.
