Design tips that will help you make the most of your kitchen

Regardless of the size of your kitchen, it can be difficult to know how to make the most of the space you have available. So that you can make optimal use of the square footage on offer in your cooking space, here are some handy design hints and tips.

Go for a galley design
In an awkwardly-shaped kitchen, it can be tricky to think of a design t. However, the good news is you don’t need to be an expert to come up with a solution to this problem. For instance, a galley kitchen design is ideal for spaces that are long and narrow. This particular style of cooking space typically has two parallel counters running the length of the room, making it the best fit if you want to maximise an area with limited room. It’s important to think carefully about the colours you use in a galley kitchen. Dark, rich materials could risk making the space appear even smaller, so instead you should aim to go for lighter shades when it comes to your worktops, cabinets and flooring. For example, you could choose a solid wood worktop in a light beech or ash. For inspiration, you could browse the products available from a specialist such as Worktop Express.

Add an island unit
Although having a large, spacious kitchen is great, the extra room could leave you scratching your head when it comes to creating a suitable design. If your oversized cooking space is looking a little bare, you could add an island unit. As well as occupying an empty area, this piece of furniture provides you with a substantial amount of additional storage, as well as place to prepare meals, sit down to eat and entertain guests. You could even position your sink on the unit, meaning you’re able to free up your worktops and move around more easily.

Utilise forgotten spaces
If your kitchen area is on the smaller side, you could try utilising forgotten spaces. For example, you could fix hooks to the end of your lower cabinets and hang anything from tea towels to colanders there. This is especially handy if you’re lacking in storage. You could also make the most of the top of your cupboards and use this empty area to keep your seldom used and more bulky items, such as casserole dishes. While you may think your kitchen is short on space, you’ll be surprised at how well you can utilise the whole room if you think outside the box.

With some careful planning, you shouldn’t struggle to optimise your kitchen area, regardless of how much square footage you have.
